Happy New Year! This is the time of year when so many of us make the pledge to change something about ourselves for the better. And, if you think about it, most of these resolutions are about negative things: we don’t eat well enough, we don’t exercise enough, our rooms aren’t clean enough…
So, I thought that instead of focusing on the negative, I’d focus on something positive: passion and learning to find out what my passion is (or maybe that I have more than one passion). A girlfriend of mine found an activity that helps figure out your passion and now I’m going to share it with you!
It’s super simple! You just have to complete each sentence with an activity. Don’t worry about your answers being really different and don’t think about what the “right” answer is. Just be honest with yourself!
- When I was little, I dreamed of…
- I can’t pass up a book or movie about…
- If I played hooky from school for a week, I’d spend the time…
- Most people don’t know this about me, but I really enjoy…
- I am the go-to person when my friends need help with…
- If I could star in my own how-to TV show, it would be about…
- If I were to make a homemade gift, it would involve…
- I’ve tried it only once or twice, but I really enjoy…
- The closest I come to a runner’s high is when I’m…
- If I won first prize in a talent show, it would be for…
Now, all you have to do is whittle down your list to find your top 3 passions. It’s easy. Simply ask yourself, If I had to choose between Activity 1 and Activity 2, which would I choose? When you pick a winner, compare the winner to Activity 3, and so on. Keep comparing the winner to the next activity and eventually, you’ll find out which of the 10 is your favorite. You can do the comparison round several times to find your top 3 or top 5, if you want.
I hope you enjoyed this fun activity to get you started in a positive direction for 2012. It’s going to be a great year!
